Thank you for raising this point. It is encouraging to see Hydration’s infrastructure becoming stronger as the ecosystem continues to grow. We also fully recognize the excellent Hydration-specific features provided by this explorer.

However, Subscan serves a different and complementary role. It is a standardized, general-purpose explorer with coverage across the broader Polkadot ecosystem. In particular, Subscan has ecosystem-wide advantages in areas such as XCM data, allowing users to follow and verify cross-chain activity.

A mature ecosystem benefits from having multiple independent explorers. Ethereum, for example, is supported by Etherscan, Blockscout, and other explorers. Relying on only one provider creates a single point of failure: downtime, indexing errors, or data discrepancies become harder to identify without an independent source for comparison. Multiple explorers improve resilience, transparency, and accountability.

We therefore do not believe these two explorers should be viewed as substitutes. Hydration’s customized explorer provides strong network-specific functionality, while Subscan offers standardized services, independent verification, and broader cross-ecosystem data.

If budget is the main concern, we believe a defined review or transition period would be more appropriate than abruptly ending support. This would give the community time to evaluate actual usage, service continuity, and the impact on users before making a long-term decision.

We respectfully ask you to reconsider the `NAY` vote and support this proposal.

We agree—Hydration is a great community, and we’re genuinely happy to see the ecosystem have its own explorer. That is a sign of growth, and we don’t see it as competition with Subscan.

At the same time, having two independent explorers is valuable. Hydration’s explorer offers customized features for the network, while Subscan provides a standardized experience, broader Polkadot ecosystem coverage, and XCM data. Users have more choice, data can be cross-checked, and the network is less dependent on a single service if one explorer has an issue.

Subscan applies for funding periodically because running an explorer has ongoing costs, including infrastructure, indexing, monitoring, upgrades, and support. It is similar to a SaaS subscription—the cost is for keeping the service reliable over time, not only for building it once.

We don’t have visibility into how the other explorer is funded or whether it is intended to operate indefinitely as a public good, and every service naturally needs a sustainable model. Our point is simply that two explorers can serve different needs and make the Hydration ecosystem stronger together. We hope the community will consider this broader value when evaluating the proposal.


Voted Aye because, in my opinion, a healthy ecosystem is a diverse ecosystem.

Subscan services many in the Polkadot ecosystem, it’s not a zero-sum-game, and we should have multiple explorers and APIs. 

Subscan needs to provide more specific data, such as usage statistics and the extent of API dependence.

## Pricing & Cost Structure for 2026

We have simplified our pricing into a flat base rate per network.

### 1. Base Monthly Pricing

- **Hydration (Mainnet): $1,699 / month**

### 2. Cost Efficiency Analysis

Although usage has increased by approximately 25%, our pricing remains the same as in 2025, with no increase in fees. We can also confirm that pricing will remain unchanged throughout the second half of the year.

This effectively represents a reduction in cost per unit of usage and reflects the infrastructure optimizations completed during 2025.

Subscan asks the Hydration group for money to keep its website working. The cost is 1,699 dollars every month. For six months, the total is 10,194 dollars. The price did not go up from last year, even though more people use the service. Subscan helps show information about blocks and transactions. It also gives free tools for builders.
